Literature References: Occurs in nature as the mineral covellite, or indigo copper (blue, hexagonal or monoclinic crystals). Prepn: Glemser, Sauer in Handbook of Preparative Inorganic Chemistry vol. 2, G. Brauer, Ed. (Academic Press, New York, 2nd ed., 1965) p 1017.
Properties: Black powder. Stable in air when dry, oxidized to CuSO4 by moist air. Practically insol in water, alcohol, dil acids, alkalies. Sol in KCN soln, NH4OH, hot HNO3.
Use: In antifouling paints; in prepn of mixed catalysts; in development of aniline black dye in textile printing.
