Properties: Minute crystals, mp 228° (commercial grades mp 221- 223°). Melts with decomposition to NH3 and phthalimide. Slightly sol in cold water, methanol. More sol in hot solvents. Heat of combustion 921.7 cal/mol. Boiling of aq or alcoholic solns produces NH3 and phthalimide. The presence of acids accelerates decompn.
