Molecular Structure
Detailed Description
Ethylene glycol is also known as "glycol" and "ethylene glycol", abbreviated as EG. The chemical formula is (CH2OH)2, which is the simplest diol. Ethylene glycol is a colorless, odorless, sweet liquid that is toxic to animals. The human lethal dose is about 1.6 g/kg. Ethylene glycol is soluble in water and acetone, but its solubility in ethers is small. Used as a solvent, antifreeze, and synthetic polyester raw materials. Ethylene Glycol High Molecular Weight Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) is a phase transfer catalyst also used for cell fusion; its nitrate is an explosive.
