Application: Lycopene belongs to the carotenoid family and offers a range of red shades. Lycopene is found mainly in tomatoes, grapefruit, watermelons, and pink guava. As it is not synthesized by the human body, lycopene can only be supplemented through diet.
Lycopene is a powerful carotenoid quencher of singlet oxygen, being 100 times more efficient in test tube studies than Vitamin E. Apart from its anti-oxidative capabilities, some studies have shown that lycopene may lower the risk of heart disease, lipid oxidation, lower LDL (“bad”) cholesterol, enhance the body’s immunity system and in particular, prevention of cancer.
